Calgarians weigh in on flu shots ahead of clinics opening

Flu clinics across the province will open next week.

People will be able to get this year’s influenza vaccine at many pharmacists, clinics or from their family doctor starting Monday.

However, some calgarians seem to be on the fence about rolling up their sleeve.

Ali, whose wife and kids always get the flu shot, thinks it doesn’t make much of difference.

“I’d rather have one less shot in my body that’s why, there is no logic behind it but that’s my own thing.”

But after speaking with family he might adjust his views.

“I had an argument with my mom she said you should get it too and is said I’ll think about it. So since having this conversation I may review it.”

Kerry says she doesn’t think she needs the flu shot because everyone she knows that gets it, still gets sick.

“I think it’s a personal choice, I don’t think it’s like a vaccine where everyone should be getting it but I think if you want to do it you can. I just haven’t seen enough evidence to prove that it actually stops any other flu than the one giving the shot for.”

About 300 people were hospitalized last flu season and five people died in Calgary.
