World’s first lesbian bridal magazine launched by Australian couple

An Australian couple has launched the world’s first bridal magazine for women in love.
Tara Baker and her partner Arlia Hassell decided to launch Dancing With Her after finding limited resources while planning their own wedding.
“We wanted to see two brides in photographs and learn our options of what we could wear and there’s a lot of logistical things that you wouldn’t even think of — I guess, how brides walk down the aisle together,” said Baker. “It’s just thinking outside the box.”
The online magazine was launched in February and, now that word has spread across the globe, they’re working on launching a print version.
Their success comes in the midst of a vote on same sex marriage in Australia.
“It’s not legal in Australia right now and we have a lot of brides to marry overseas where it is legal and when they come back to Australia that isn’t recognized anymore and that can make it hard,” said Baker.
“Everyone in Australia has got a letter in the mail with a ‘yes’ and a ‘no’ box and we tick that and we send it back to the government. On the 15th of November we will get the results of what that is and I guess it’s up to the government what the next steps from there are.”
Baker says it’s an exciting time for their business and her country.
“I get emails from people saying that we’re this big company and we’re not. We’re just two women in love that wanted this resource,” said Baker. “We would have thought that something like this would have existed, I guess it’s 2017 so, but it doesn’t so it is exciting — we’re a part of this change and this movement.”
