A Dalhousie University professor is hoping consumers continue to hold grocery stores accountable in the wake of a price-fixing scheme involving Loblaws.
Last December, Loblaw CEO revealed they had run a price-fixing scheme with Weston Bakeries to better control margins that influence the competition.
Now Canadians are able to sign up to get a free $25 gift card.
Dalhousie University’s Dean and Professor of Food Distribution, Sylvain Charlebois, says the retail giant is doing a masterful job at dodging consumer mistrust, as its share value is up over the last few days.
“I can tell you, a lot of people in the industry are very concerned with what happened at Loblaws, and they’re trying to make sure it doesn’t happen again,” said Charlebois.
He adds what happened was illegal and Loblaws should consider compensating competitors rather than Canadians.
Charlebois hopes if consumers see prices that don’t look right they will report it to the competition bureau.
