CALGARY (660 NEWS) – A Calgary family has turned to social media in hopes of locating the man who assaulted their mother back in October of 2016.
Nikole Denovan took to Facebook on Thursday after finding out the man that had put her mom Dianne Denovan in the hospital for almost a month with severe injuries including a bleed on the brain, broken ribs and missing teeth, as well as the emotional turmoil that followed.
Michael Richard Cole was charged with the aggravated assault of Dianne, he was sentenced to three years in prison minus time served, Cole was released on parole back in November and sent to a halfway house in Calgary. Part of the terms of Coles parole was that he was not to contact or go near the Denovan family and was to stay in the city because he is considered a high risk to re-offend.
Last week the Denovan family got a phone call from the police to inform them that Cole was missing and a Canada wide warrant was put out for his arrest.
Nikole said that the three words “He is missing” erased any progress her mom has made in the past two years.
“The day he said he was missing it was almost like we were reliving it all over again. She is dealing with high levels of anxiety and fear as well as high levels of stress. As much as we are ensuring her security in this matter there is always that fear of what if,” Nikole said.
Nikole said that her mom had asked the parole board that Cole not be allowed back in Calgary but because he was a high risk to re-offend it was believed police could keep a better eye on him in the city.
She believes Cole intended to take her moms life the night of the assault and that she hopes he is caught.
“To now be kinda in fear of running into him somewhere, or maybe by chance, he can find her again, or as well hurt somebody else. He only got a short stint in the grand scheme of things while my mom will have to deal with this for the rest of her life.”
Nikole said that the Calgary police have been very helpful in this whole situation and have kept the family in the loop on what is going on.
She said there is a specific team that is investigating Coles disappearance and she believes that they are working as hard as they can to locate him.
“That is all we can ask for, they have been in contact and told us about nights that they have been out all night searching for him, so I believe they are doing everything they can,” Nikole said.
In regards to her post on Facebook, she hopes if nothing else it makes sure he can not hurt anyone else the way he hurt her mom.
