WestJet flight turns back to YYC because of unruly passenger

CALGARY (660 NEWS) – Calgary police have a man in custody after a disruptive passenger caused a WestJet flight en route to London, to turn back to Calgary International Airport Friday night.

The flight took off shortly after 6 p.m., but it wasn’t long before the pilot turned around and let the tower know they were coming back.

After burning off some fuel, the plane landed around 8:30 p.m.

Police say a middle-aged man, who is a foreign national, was arrested and charges are pending, but they’re not saying exactly what happened.

WestJet said in a statement that because this is now a legal matter, the company will not be commenting on what happened in the air.

The 260 passengers on the flight were able to depart for Europe at around 11 p.m. on Friday.
