No inquiries after chlorine leak at Repsol Sport Centre

CALGARY (660 NEWS) – A chlorine leak at the Repsol Sport Centre early Tuesday morning, could have been a lot worse.

Fortunately, the Calgary Fire Department said it was isolated to just one room saving staff from potentially life-threatening injuries.

When fire crews arrived at the scene around 1:00 a.m., readings in the chlorine room were at 50 parts per million, very dangerous levels according to Battalion Chief Stu Laird.

“Ten parts per million is what we call an IDLH, an IDLH is immediately dangerous to life and health.”

He says fire fighters donned encapsulated suits, entered the room, and shut off the chlorine, the building was then turned back over to facility staff.

Nobody was hurt, and there is no word yet on what caused the leak.
