University to offer free concussion prevention course

CALGARY (660 NEWS) – The University of Calgary is preparing to launch a new, online course on concussions that will be available to anyone interested.

The course will have six different modules that focus on how to prevent and manage concussions.

Dr. Kathryn Schneider with the Faculty of Kinesiology at the University said this course is a good way to provide knowledge on the subject to the everyday person.

“This is one way that we’re delving into a little bit more detail in a lot of the different areas around concussion, to really build that evidence and form knowledge base,” Schneider said.

Schneider said one in five Canadians will report a sports-related concussion in their lifetime.

The seven-week course will be offered free of charge.
