CALGARY (660 NEWS) – The Calgary Humane Society is looking for the owner of a dog that was abandoned at a local pet store.
On Feb 21, a female dog believed to be either a Maltese or Bichon was left at the Petland Store in Sunridge by an unknown woman.
The dog was suffering from severe medical neglect and untreated diabetes. Veterinarians eventually made the decision to euthanize the dog.
Surveillance video from the Petland store showed a woman entering with something concealed in her jacket. Within minutes, she left with the jacket loose and open.

Soon after, store staff discovered the blind and immobile dog left behind and immediately contacted the Calgary Humane Society.
“While some may see this as a semi-responsible abandonment as it was done indoors at a pet store, it remains irresponsible, inappropriate and criminal,” said Brad Nichols, Senior Manager of Animal Cruelty Investigations.
Nichols said that they’ve been unable to identify the woman and the Humane Society is looking to speak with her.
“There are a multitude of veterinary clinics in the area, as well as the services of Calgary Humane Society that could have been utilized rather than dumping an elderly, blind dog in unfamiliar surroundings. We would like to speak with the woman in the video to further understand the actions taken on February 21.”
