Cavalry FC open inaugural season with victory

CALGARY (660 NEWS) — Calgary’s newest professional sports team opened its first season in winning fashion.

Cavalry FC of the Canadian Premier League defeated York9 FC 2-1 at Spruce Meadows.

“It was a fantastic afternoon,” described 660 NEWS anchor Sandra Prusina, who was on hand at ATCO Field. “The vibe was outstanding, as was the product on the pitch. Plus, the weather didn’t dampen anyone’s mood. Everyone was having a blast, despite the temperature hovering at zero.”

The Saturday afternoon match featured a mixture of rain, snow and fog.

Jordan Brown, who opened the scoring for the home side, was named player of the match, while Calgary-born Dominick Zator netted the game-winning goal.

“It’s great to see so many local players in action,” stated Prusina. “Along with Zator, Marco Carducci was in goal and the team’s captain, Nik Ledgerwood, hails from Lethbridge.”
