CALGARY – The Kincora Community Association hosted a vigil on Sunday to remember a family in the community affected by a domestic violence incident.
Two people were found dead and one woman is in serious, potentially life-threatening condition after an explosive fire in the city’s northwest on Saturday afternoon.
Residents from the Kincora Community Association held a moment of silence while others held candles and hung red ribbons, a favourite colour of the woman in hospital.
“We just thought that if we could just line the entrance of Kincora with red ribbons that if the family comes back into Kincora they can see that the support and love is here for them,” said Sherri Sloan who helped organize the vigil.
The homicide unit has taken over the investigation.
Fire crews, police and EMS were called to the home on Kincora Drive around 1:50 p.m.
Two people were found dead inside the home when firefighters arrived on scene, and EMS found a woman suffering from burn-related injuries in the driveway and transported her to the hospital shortly before 2 p.m.
Those in the community who attended the vigil can’t grasp with what the family is going through.
“I’m a mom of three kids and it’s just unimaginable, really, I guess that’s why your just heart feels like it needs to help in some small amount,” said Sloan. “There’s just no way to comprehend a tragedy like this.”
More than a hundred people came out to the vigil many of them wearing red, including friends of the victim.
