More construction for Calgarians as paving projects hit city streets

CALGARY (660 NEWS) – A smoother drive throughout the city is on the horizon for Calgarians, but first must come the headache of construction.

Starting this week the city will be hitting the pavement with its 2019 Summer Road Resurfacing Program.

Thanks to $30 million dollars in funding, the city will improve over 90 different road locations throughout Calgary.

Calgary Road spokesperson Chris McGeachy says this is going to be a big project to get done.

“We will cover about 230 lane kilometres, the split of that will be 128 done by city forces and 102 done by contracted services,” said McGeachy. “This work will actually be done all over the City of Calgary, but there will be a focus particularly on areas in the north this year.”

There are seven larger projects that drivers will want to be prepared for throughout Calgary including:

McGeachy adds one of the bigger intersection projects will be on Macleod Trail and 58th Avenue, near Chinook Mall.

He wants to remind everyone to follow the road signs and slow down while driving through work zones.
