Calgary man presumed drowned in Saskatchewan

CALGARY (660 NEWS) — A Calgary man who went missing after going canoeing in Saskatchewan is presumed drowned.

On June 8, RCMP in Green Lake were called to Smoothstone Lake after they received reports of a missing canoeist.

After leaving his campsite to go canoeing around 3 p.m., the 27-year-old didn’t return and his canoe was found by a local fisherman submerged in the lake.

He was not wearing a lifejacket when he left camp.

It is believed that an increase of winds in the area may have been a factor in the canoe capsizing.

Patrols checked the shorelines in hopes of locating the man but haven’t found him, crews have also attempted aerial searches of the area.

With most attempts to locate the man going unsuccessful, the RCMP believe he has drowned.

The name of the man is not expected to be released.
