CALGARY (660 NEWS) – The Government of Alberta has broken ground on a new mental health centre in Calgary.
Premier Jason Kenney joined Associate Minister of Mental Health and Addictions Jason Luan and members of Alberta Health Services for the ceremony Friday morning.
The Centre for Child & Adolescent Mental Health will be built in the community of Hounsfield Heights in northwest Calgary.
Saifa Koonar, with the Alberta Children’s Hospital Foundation, says the centre was only $3 million away from its donation goal.
That quickly changed at the end of the announcement when an anonymous donor announced they were putting forward $2.8 million to the centre.
Before the press conference, just over $47 million had been raised through the Alberta Children’s Hospital Foundation’s Build Them Up campaign to fund construction.
The centre is expected to open in two years and will offer three new services: an urgent walk-in clinic, intense acute treatment care, and a day hospital.
