Snowfall warnings out for parts of southern Alberta including Calgary

CALGARY (660 NEWS) – It’s going to be a snowy day across many parts of southern Alberta on Wednesday including the city of Calgary.
A snowfall warning is now in place for the city of Calgary along with Airdrie, Cochrane, Olds and Sundre.
10-20 cms of snow is expected before the system moves out on Thursday.
Total snowfall amounts of 15 to 25 cm is expected with locally higher amounts to 50 cm over higher elevations to the west of Calgary.
Rapidly accumulating snow will make travel difficult. Visibility may be suddenly reduced at times in heavy snow.
Snowfall warnings are also out for parts of Kananaskis country including Canmore as well as Okotoks, High River and Claresholm.
Due to snow-covered roads, RCMP are advising against all non-essential travel on Highway 22 between Highway 520 and Highway 533 near Nanton.
Parts of southwestern Alberta are expected to get the worst of it with 20 to 30 cms expected, even as high as 50 cms in some parts.
Winter storm warnings are out for Cardston, Fort Macleod and Magrath along with Crowsnest Pass, Pincher Creek and Waterton Lakes National Park.
Motorists are reminded to be prepared for winter driving conditions.
