CALGARY (660 NEWS) – One woman has been taken to hospital after a fire in the southeast Thursday morning.
The fire started at around 4 a.m. along Applewood Lane SE. A police officer on patrol called it into the fire department.
Proud of officers who detected this fire while out patrolling. Spoke to one of the officers who pulled a woman to safety. "Seemed like the right thing to do" he said, shrugging his shoulders. Not only are they courageous and brave, our officers are #humble too. #yyconpatrol https://t.co/8KWDPpkOQI

Five surrounding units of a townhouse were evacuated as a precaution.
“Crews conducted an aggressive interior fire attack and search and were able to quickly extinguish the fire,” said Battalion Chief Paul Frederick.
The evacuees will likely be able to return later in the day.
“Fire department crews including an investigator remain on scene to ensure there is no fire extension and to determine the cause and origin of the fire.”
