One man dead after officer-involved shooting in Cochrane

COCHRANE (660 NEWS) — One man is dead following an officer-involved shooting in Cochrane.

Friday evening around 7 p.m. police were called to a home in the town west of Calgary due to the concern of the wellbeing of a man in the house. He was believed to have multiple guns on him.

When RCMP arrived at the home, the man had barricaded himself inside.

RCMP worked to try and get the man out of the home peacefully but were unsuccessful in their initial effort.

After trying alternate tactics to get the man out, he exited the home and a confrontation occurred that resulted in one of the officers shooting the man.

EMS was in the process of transporting him to Foothills Medical Centre when he died en route.

 

No officers were injured in the shooting

The Alberta Serious Incident Response Team has now been called in to investigate the shooting.
