CALGARY (660 NEWS) – Believe it or not, this shop could be busier than the North Pole.
Christmas time means thousands of gifts and letters come through postal sorting facilities, keeping workers on their toes.
So what happens to all those Christmas packages that come to Canada Post?
Saif Kaisar from 660 NEWS got a first-hand look at a busy sorting facility on 49 Ave in northeast Calgary.
Staff at the facility said around 47,000 packages were delivered across Calgary on Sunday alone. Over 3 million parcels were delivered between Sunday and Monday nationwide.
The Canadian Union of Postal Workers (CUPW) says Canada Post is slammed with mail and packages as online sales continue to grow.
Canada Post does hire more drivers and temporary workers during the busy holiday season but admits you might not receive your package on time as many sorting facilities are swamped with mail.
If you still haven’t sent your package, Canada Post says the deadline to send it without extra charges is Dec. 11.
The absolute final day to make sure your gifts arrive by Christmas Day is Dec. 21.
