Shopping malls and airports will be packed this weekend

CALGARY (660 NEWS) – It’s the busiest time for the most wonderful time of the year.

In fact, this weekend shopping centres are expecting thousands and thousands of shoppers looking for last-minute gifts.

Paige O’Neill with CF Chinook Centre has a couple of tips if you are heading to the mall.

“If you’re doing multiple (shops), I would make multiple trips to your car and keep your gifts out of sight. Our retailers are doing their best to service everyone. For safety reasons, be aware of your surroundings.”

She adds the most important tip is to be patient, especially when trying to find parking.

The weekend will also be busy for the Calgary International Airport as over 50,000 travellers are expected Friday, making it the single busiest day of the year.

Travel writer Jody Robbins has some tips to make things less stressful if you are flying, including taking a double look at what you’re packing.

“Different things that you wouldn’t think would be allowable or might be allowable. Epsom salts…for whatever reason, they do have a limit on that and you can only bring in a pop-sized can of Epsom salts in your carry-on bag.”

The Calgary Airport encourages you to check your flight ahead of time and make sure any Christmas gifts in your luggage are unwrapped.
