Calgary malls ready to reopen with big changes

CALGARY (660 NEWS) – As many businesses prepare to reopen this week, some are taking extra precautions to protect workers and customers from COVID-19.

The company that owns Chinook Centre and Market Mall is prepared to open the doors at those malls on May 14 barring any changes from the province.

In a release, Cadillac Fairview says while they’re excited to reopen the malls, it will not be business as usual.

“Some of the areas we are focused on: increased cleaning and hygiene practices; physical distancing measures in all areas of the mall; and reviewing procedures for all shopping centre amenities, for example, looking at our food court practices to follow any guidance from the province and health authorities.”

Meanwhile, T&T Supermarkets are asking customers to wear protective face masks in their stores effective Monday. Staff at T&T, including the two locations in Calgary, are already required to wear masks.

The chain will also be extending hours of operations at many stores.

The province is easing restrictions this week and will allow some business to reopen including restaurants, retailers and hair salons.
