Masks now mandatory at Calgary International Airport

CALGARY (660 NEWS) – If you’re planning on travelling through the Calgary International Airport, don’t forget to pack your mask.

Starting June 17, all travellers and staff will be required to wear a mask or face-covering in the domestic and international terminals.

This announcement comes almost a week after the federal government announced masks will be mandatory on all flights regardless of the destination.

Reid Feist with the airport said the new changes may seem strange at first.

“This is going to be a learning experience for people because some of their habits for travel are changing. We know many of these rules and recommendations are becoming more normal in all parts of society.”

“Our commitment to safety remains our top priority,” said Bob Sartor, President & CEO of the Calgary Airport Authority.

“As workers and travellers return to YYC, we want them to trust that we remain focused on providing a safe and healthy airport to work at, to begin their journey or to welcome them home.”

As part of the #FlyHealthyYYC initiative, several other safety measures are already in place at the airport including physical distancing decals and signs, enhanced cleaning of high touch areas and sanitizer locations in high-traffic areas.

The airport is also reminding staff, guests and visitors to only enter the building for travel or work purposes.

Anyone picking up passengers is recommended to use the cell phone lot or the curbside options.
