Summer school student tests positive for COVID-19

CALGARY (660 NEWS) – A summer school student in Calgary has tested positive for COVID-19.
The Calgary Catholic School District (CCSD) confirmed Tuesday one of its students contracted the virus.
“The student, teacher, and class members have been instructed to quarantine for 14 days as per Alberta Health Services (AHS) guidelines,” said the CCSD in an email.

Additionally, the school the student was attending will be deep-cleaned with the enhanced cleaning protocols already put into place.

“Safety is a top priority.”
The CCSD says it cares deeply for all staff and students and is working to make the schools a safe place.
Earlier July, the province revealed plans for a return to school in the fall.
Premier Jason Kenney says positive cases are to be expected while COVID-19 is still active.
“There will be positive cases. With three-quarters of a million students and tens of thousands of teachers and staff, it’s inevitable that there will be some cases.”
However, he says that in other nations where schools have reopened without regulations, like Taiwan, there have been no significant increases of outbreaks.
“The Safe School Reopening Program was designed in careful consultation with the Chief Medical Officer of Health Dr. Deena Hinshaw, with Alberta Health, Alberta Health Services, with superintendents, school boards, parent councils, and others.”
