Large crowd rush entrance of new grocery store, police called

CALGARY (660 NEWS) — A new grocery store in northeast Calgary drew a crowd larger than anticipated Friday afternoon.

Hundreds of shoppers showed up for the grand opening of the Asian Food Centre in the Savana Bazaar market and rushed the doors when it opened.

The first 100 customers were given free pressure cookers and other kitchen appliances.

“Instead of a line they aggressively came all together,” Major Natt, President of the Asian Food Centre, said.

“[Police] closed operations for a couple of hours then bylaw showed up and checked inside and said we were okay reopen.”

The store apologized to customers and brought in security to make sure public health rules were being followed.
