City closes part of 5 Ave. flyover due to corrosion

CALGARY (660 NEWS) – Your drive into downtown Calgary will look different starting Friday.

The City is closing one middle lane of the 5 Ave. flyover after recent inspections showed corrosion affecting the structural capacity on a part of the bridge.

Speed limits on the bridge will also be reduced to 30 km/hr.

The bridge, which was built in 1972, will under a major renovation project in April of next year.

The closure will last until repair work can begin in the spring, which is expected to last until November 2021.
