CALGARY (660 NEWS) – Before you start making smores over a campfire this long weekend, make sure your area isn’t under a fire ban first.
According to the Alberta Fire Bans, most of Southern Alberta is facing fire bans, fire restrictions, or fire advisories.
Wildfire information officer Travis Fairweather says some parts of Calgary are on the list of affected areas.
“In the Calgary forest area there is a fire ban as well as a fire restriction in the Northern portion. It still allows for safe camp fires so long as they are in the campground within the designated fire ring
,” he says.
“But once you get in the fire ban area which is more towards the south that’s where there is a total ban on all outdoor fires.”

Fairweather recommends all Albertans that are planning on making a fire, should check the Alberta fire bans website or download the app.
“There will be an interactive map on there and a fire ban will show but in red and the fire restriction will show up in orange and if you click on it you can see the specific details for each.”
