Police locate Jetta following death on Memorial Drive, no arrests made

CALGARY (660 NEWS) — Police have confirmed they have found the Volkswagen Jetta connected to the death of David Bawden.

There have been no arrests made so far.
Police were looking for the newer-model silver Volkswagen Jetta after a homicide earlier this week which they believe was random.
On Tuesday morning, the body of David Bawden, 59, was found at the intersection of Memorial Drive and 36 St., as it is believed that he fell out of a vehicle stopped at a red light. He was declared dead at the scene.
The investigation on Tuesday morning also resulted in many road closures in the area lasting several hours.

After looking at a significant amount of surveillance and dashcam footage, police have identified that vehicle as a 2019 or 2020 Jetta with Alberta license plate CHG-6058 and a large Jesus sticker on the rear bumper.
Investigators have also determined that Bawden was walking along eastbound Memorial Drive when he was picked up by the Jetta between the Bridgeland and Zoo LRT stations at 8:37 a.m.
Police are asking anyone who may have dashcam footage or was travelling in the area between 8:35 and 8:45 a.m. to contact them with information.
“We need the public’s help to locate this vehicle and the registered owner as soon as possible,” said Staff Sergeant Martin Schiavetta of the Calgary Police Service Homicide Unit.
“At this time, we are investigating the possibility that this was a random attack. While we don’t believe there are additional safety concerns for Calgarians, we are exhausting all measures to locate the suspects.”
