CALGARY (660 NEWS) – The College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta (CPSA) says it has suspended a Calgary doctor’s permit to practice medicine after the doctor failed to respond to complaints and did not comply with a previous undertaking.
Dr. Hasan Hafiz works in the city’s northwest and will be suspended as of Oct 29.
Hafiz will be responsible for finding arrangements for his patients.
The CPSA says suspending a doctor is a last resort measure.“Cooperating with their regulator when practice issues arise is key and failing to do so undermines the fundamental expectation CPSA has of Alberta’s physicians,” said Dr. Scott Mcleod, CPSA Registrar.
“Ideally, we want to work with physicians to improve their practice and ensure they’re providing quality care, but if that approach is unsuccessful, we will take the steps necessary to protect Albertans.”
The CPSA said there are 60 family doctors in northwest Calgary who are accepting new patients.
If patients are looking for a new doctor, they can use the Foothills Primary Care Network’s Find a Doctor tool online.
Patients can also contact the Primary Care Network over the phone during regular business hours.
