Blast of winter set to hit southern Alberta this weekend

CALGARY (660 NEWS) – A winter storm is brewing and parts of southern Alberta could be in for a fresh, heavy, snowfall.
As Breakfast Television’s weather specialist Michelle Yi explains cold air and snow is on the way.
“This system is moving from Montana. Overnight tonight, it is tracking further east than first anticipate so Calgary is going to see snow but very light snow.”
While Calgary may be spared most of the deep snow, travel on many area highways could change quickly.
“The hardest-hit areas of the prairies could be seeing snowfall totals of 30 to 50 centimetres,” said Yi.

Environment Canada has issued several winter storm watches for areas east and south of Calgary, stretching from the U.S. border to parts of Saskatchewan.
“This includes Lethbridge, Medicine Hat, Milk River and surrounding areas,” added Yi.
Oktoks, High River, Strathmore, Brooks and the Crowsnest Pass are also under those watches.
Calgary is only expecting a chance and flurries Friday night and through most of the weekend with temperatures dipping to as low as minus 10 degrees.
