Third Alberta health care worker dies from COVID-19

EDMONTON (660 NEWS) – A third health care worker in Alberta has died from COVID-19.
According to Alberta Health, the man was a doctor in his 70s from the Calgary zone. He was not working for Alberta Health Services (AHS) at the time and did not contract the virus at work.

In a statement on Twitter, Health Minister Tyler Shandro said he’s profoundly saddened by the news.
“My heartfelt condolences to the physician’s family, friends, patients and colleagues during this difficult time. While this virus was not contracted at work, physicians are on the front lines every day, working hard to battle the physical & emotional toll of this pandemic.”

The Calgary doctor is the third health care worker to have died from the virus, following a worker at Bethany Riverview and a continuing care worker in Edmonton.
