Police arrest man with loaded firearm at Calgary shopping centre

CALGARY (660 NEWS) – A loss prevention officer helped Calgary police arrest a man wanted on a Canada-wide warrant.

Last Sunday, police were called to a store in the East Hills Shopping Centre after the officer in the store noticed something suspicious and recognized a man wanted on that nation-wide warrant.

When officers arrived, the man attempted to run away but was eventually arrested along with a 30-year-old woman who was also wanted by police.

Police seized several loaded firearms and thousands of dollars in meth, cocaine and fentanyl during the arrest.

“This is a great example of our community working together,” said S/Sgt. Jim Shaw. “This individual was carrying a loaded weapon in a public space, which created a significant risk to public safety. We are thankful that the store’s employees were able to recognize suspicious activity and report it so that police could safely apprehend the suspect.”

The man and woman now face 21 charges including possession of a dangerous weapon, fraud and possession of drugs.
