Two excessive speeders caught minutes apart on Stoney Trail in SE Calgary

Police say two motorists were stopped within minutes of each other this week after officers clocked both travelling more than 60 km/h over the posted limit on Stoney Trail.

Calgary police say officers recorded a vehicle travelling 173 km/h in 100 km/h of Stoney Trail in SE Calgary just before 2 p.m. on Monday afternoon.

Just a few minutes later, another driver was caught going 161 km/h on the same stretch of road, according to police.

Both drivers were issued mandatory court summonses.

Officers also conducted a three‑hour enforcement blitz on Saturday along Stoney Trail near Bow Trail SW, where officers issued more than 40 summonses, handed out 10 warnings, and stopped one driver travelling 147 km/h.

The increased enforcement is part of the CPS’s Drive to Zero campaign, an ongoing effort to reduce serious and fatal collisions on city roads.
