Intoxicated father charged after toddler nearly rolls into traffic: Lethbridge police

A Lethbridge father has been charged after his two‑year‑old son was allegedly put in danger outside a business.

Police say security staff intervened on Wednesday when they saw a toddler in an unattended stroller rolling toward traffic while an extremely intoxicated man, later identified as the child’s father, was slumped against a pillar nearby.

With no other adults present and the man making no attempt to stop the stroller, staff pulled the child back and called police out of concern for his safety.

When officers arrived, they found the man severely intoxicated and unable to care for himself or his son. They also discovered open liquor in a bag attached to the stroller.

Police later learned the man was under court‑ordered conditions prohibiting him from possessing or consuming alcohol.

He was arrested at the scene. The child was not injured and was cared for by police until family members arrived.

The man is charged with failing to provide the necessities of life and four counts of breaching his release conditions. His name is being withheld to protect the child’s identity.
