Anti-restriction protesters gather for second straight day in Calgary

CALGARY (660 NEWS) – A second protest in as many days took place in downtown Calgary on Sunday afternoon.

Anti-lockdown protesters gathered at Courthouse Park to denounce Alberta’s COVID-19 restrictions.

Sunday’s protest was specifically to highlight the province’s fitness industry.

Protesters are asking Jason Kenney’s UCP government to reopen gyms. Their closure, they say, has affected people’s businesses and their mental health.

On Saturday, hundreds of protesters and counter-protesters converged on Calgary’s city hall to take part in – or oppose – a “Walk for Freedom” protest.

After an array of speeches, the protesters walked through the streets waving flags, holding signs and chanting anti-lockdown messaging. Some carried tiki torches.

It was a similar scene last week in Edmonton, when several hundred protesters gathered at the Alberta legislature to voice their disapproval of lockdowns, masks and other public-health restrictions linked to the COVID-19 pandemic.
