National Lacrosse League to return in December

CALGARY (660 NEWS) – Roughnecks fans can now mark a date on the calendar for the start of the new season.

The National Lacrosse League (NLL) announced the 2020/21 season will start on Dec. 3.

The official schedule, which is still being put together, will call for an 18-game regular season followed by the playoffs and the Championship Series.

“During what has been a very challenging year and uncertain times we are thrilled to finally announce that the NLL will return to play in December. We want to thank everyone that has helped us navigate the last 12 months with tough decisions, learning new innovations and, most importantly still finding a way to grow,” said NLL Commissioner Nick Sakiewicz.

The NLL hasn’t played since Mar. 8, 2020 before play was suspended due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The remainder of the season and playoffs were eventually cancelled.

The Calgary Roughnecks won their last game 13-10 against the Toronto Rock.

The league had previously unveiled a plan to return for April, but provincial and state restrictions put that plan on hold.

The new season will welcome two new teams to the fold including the Panther City Lacrosse Club in Arlington, TX and the yet-to-be-named club in Albany, NY.
