Record number of variant cases identified in Alberta

EDMONTON (660 NEWS) — A record number of variant cases of COVID-19 were reported in Alberta on Wednesday.
The province identified 1,699 cases of the virus, with 1,332 of those being variants of concern.
Variant cases continue to climb in the province and now make up roughly 59 per cent of active cases in Alberta.

The province’s positivity rate saw a slight dip over the last day, with about 9.5 per cent of the 18,412 tests completed coming back positive.
After the province increased the window of eligibility to get a vaccine to those 40 and older, the province saw another good day of vaccine numbers.
Dr. Deena Hinshaw tweeting out Wednesday that nearly 36,000 Albertans got their shot. Bringing the provincial total of vaccines administered to over 1.23 million.
