Cochrane RCMP have charged a teacher at a high school west of Calgary after alleged sexual offences against a student.
Police say an investigation into Springbank Community High School teacher, Timothy Bailey, started after a female student reported inappropriate behaviour.
On Tuesday, Bailey, 49, was arrested and charged with child luring, making sexually explicit material available to a child, and sexual exploitation.
Parents of students at Springbank Community High School were sent a letter via email Tuesday informing them a teacher had been arrested during school hours.
Rocky View Schools (RVS) say Bailey taught math to grades 10, 11 and 12 students and has worked at the school since 2003.
“RVS has placed Bailey on unassigned duties and he is prohibited from being on any Rocky View School property at any time effective immediately,” reads a statement from the school board. “School-based and divisional supports will be available for students at Springbank Community High School for as long as they may need them.”
Students were writing final exams this week and the school says the building remains “open for assessment.”
Bailey was released on conditions and is set to appear in court on Feb. 18.
RCMP are continuing to investigate and believe there could be more victims.
