EDMONTON — Albertans who have been fully vaccinated with two doses of a COVID-19 vaccine will no longer be required to quarantine if they are identified as a close contact of someone with COVID-19.
Dr. Deena Hinshaw adding those who have received just one dose, and are experiencing no symptoms, will be required to quarantine for just ten days if exposed, as opposed to the regular 14 days.
Hinshaw says the update to quarantine rules would not apply should someone experience symptoms after being exposed to COVID-19.

Should partially vaccinated individuals experience symptoms, they will be required to isolate for the usual period.
Those with one dose of vaccine who take a PCR test after day seven or later of their quarantine period will no longer be required to isolate if they receive a negative test.
Those who have received two doses of the vaccine should take a PCR test immediately. If negative, they will no longer be required to isolate. If positive, they will then have to quarantine for ten days from when their symptoms started.
This change will not apply to those who are returning from international travel.

Hinshaw provided some clarity for those who received a vaccine from out of province and are wondering how to update their online health records to reflect their recent immunization.
“No matter where you receive your vaccine, you should receive an immunization record that confirms which vaccine you were given and when,” she said. “If you received a first dose elsewhere, bring that immunization record with you to your second dose appointment, and that first dose record will be entered into your health records.”
As for Thursday’s number’s update, Hinshaw reported there are 812 new COVID-19 cases in Alberta.
The new cases coming on 9,038 tests, giving the province a positivity rate of 9.3 per cent.
