CALGARY (660 NEWS) — For over a month, Karen Begg, along with a group of fellow artists, painted the pathways of Dover.
Supported by the City of Calgary, the Parks Foundation, and the Dover Community Association, the project saw the group painting doodles like flowers and footprints, along with games like hopscotch, along the unique pathway system in Calgary’s southeast.
“It turns out it doesn’t matter how old or how young you are,” Begg explains, “if you see a hopscotch, everybody does it.”
Begg told 660 News the group was careful to comply with COVID-19 restrictions throughout the project. This included not sharing supplies, and having someone designated to pour paint.

The group originally planned on doing just five city blocks, but that soon changed.
“It was such a fun project we went out there and did five more blocks than what we originally proposed,” Begg explains.
Other artists invovled in the project include Courtney Grodde, Jessica Lapage, Ann Dinwoodie and Sarah Dinwoodie.
It was truly a community effort, with a local neighbour Dave Ritzand getting involved by using his power sweeper to clear the area before the artists set to work.
The paintings can be found on the pathway system branching off of 30th Avenue SE, near the Dover Community Centre.
