Mounties shoot, kill man in Red Deer hospital parkade

RED DEER – One man is dead after police in central Alberta drew their guns and shot him Sunday night.

Mounties say they were called to Red Deer hospital’s parkade for several driving complaints and the situation escalated.

Officers say they stopped the car in question in the parkade, pulled out their guns, and fired.

It’s unclear why the situation escalated to the point of a police-involved shooting, but there’s no mention from the RCMP of the driver having a weapon.

No officers were injured.

The area is being restricted as the Alberta Serious Incident Response Team (ASIRT) is investigating what led up to the police shooting.

The RCMP is also launching a review.
