Cineplex, Landmark to reopen movie theatres in Alberta

CALGARY – Movie lovers in Alberta will soon be able to watch flicks on the big screen, as movie theatre chains announce plans to reopen theatres next week.
Cineplex, which runs movie theatres across Canada, says Alberta’s theatres are expected to be open for guests on Thursday, as the province enters phase two of its summer reopening plan.
That includes seven locations in Calgary and five in Edmonton.
Theatres opening on June 10, 2021 in Alberta include:
- Sunridge Spectrum Cinemas, Calgary
- Eau Claire Market Cinemas, Calgary
- Westhills Cinemas, Calgary
- East Hills, Calgary
- Scotiabank Theatre Chinook, Calgary
- Seton and VIP, Calgary
- Crowfoot Crossing Cinemas, Calgary
- South Edmonton Cinemas, Edmonton
- Windermere Cinemas and VIP, Edmonton
- Scotiabank Theatre Edmonton, Edmonton
- Manning Town Centre, Edmonton
- Cinema City Movies 12, Edmonton
- North Edmonton and VIP, Edmonton
- Sherwood Park, Sherwood Park
- Galaxy Cinemas Red Deer, Red Deer
- Grande Prairie Cinemas, Grande Prairie
- SilverCity CrossIron Mills Cinemas and XSCAPE Entertainment Centre, Rocky View County
- Galaxy Cinemas Lethbridge, Lethbridge

“We recognize the new appreciation our guests have for the theatrical experience and we can’t wait to welcome them back to our theatres, as nothing compares to the big screen and big sound that we’ve been missing for so long,” said Sarah Van Lange, Executive Director of Communications for Cineplex, in a release.
“We continue to prioritize health & safety measures to ensure that our theatres are a safe, relaxing, and inviting space for movie-lovers to escape with family and friends.”
All theatres will open with enhanced safety and cleaning measures as well as updated procedures to allow for physical distancing both inside and outside auditoriums.
It says popular new releases will include The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It, Spirit Untamed, A Quiet Place Part II, and Cruella, In the Heights, and Peter Rabbit 2: The Runaway.
Landmark Cinemas also said in an email to subscribers it will be opening its Alberta theatres on Thursday, with tickets being sold for showings of A Quiet Place Part II, In the Heights, Spirit Untamed, and Peter Rabbit 2: The Runaway.
