Calgary Stampede’s first First Nations Princess passes away

CALGARY – Calgary’s first-ever First Nations Stampede Princess has passed away.

The Stampede’s Indigenous princess group announced the passing of Gloria Little Light on its Facebook page.

Little Light was from the Tsuut’ina Nation and was crowned in 1965.

“She was a woman of many talents, including winning Tsuut’ina Ladies Barrel Racing and Tsuut’ina Rodeo Princess title the same year,” a post from the group reads.

“Gloria was a role model and paved the way for future princesses by inspiring all of us to be proud and strong women.”

First Nations Princesses say they are celebrating her life and honouring Little Light’s legacy and sending love and strength to family and friends.
