ASIRT looking for witnesses to Calgary police shooting last week

CALGARY – Alberta’s police watchdog is hoping to speak to witnesses after a police officer shot and seriously injured a man in Calgary last week.
On Wednesday, Calgary police were called to the Sirocco CTrain Station around 1:40 p.m. for reports of a man with a handgun on the train.
The train cars were evacuated and the area was held as police tried to wake the suspect, who was passed out in one of the cars.

Despite a couple of hours of attempting to wake the man, police were unsuccessful.
Eventually, the man left the train on his own, carrying the reported handgun, around 4:30 p.m.
As he tried to leave the station, police confronted him, and ultimately ended up shooting him twice.
The 23-year-old man was rushed to the hospital in critical condition, where he remains in serious condition.
The gun he was carrying has since been determined to be a replica.
The Alberta Serious Incident Response Team (ASIRT) was called in to investigate the shooting and is looking to speak to anyone who may have witnessed the event or who may have video of the shooting.
