Alberta identifies 1,000+ COVID-19 cases over three day period, hospitalizations increase to 129

CALGARY — Alberta identified more than 1,000 new cases of COVID-19 over the last three days.

The 1,017 new infections come after the completion of nearly 20,000 tests — an average positivity rate of around 5.1 per cent.

There are now 3,380 active cases of COVID-19 in Alberta.

The breakdown for cases reported over the weekend is as follows:

  • 398 new cases on Aug. 6
  • 375 new cases on Aug. 7
  • 244 new cases on Aug. 8

 

Hospitalization numbers also rose over the weekend, with 129 people now in hospital, an increase of 16 since Friday’s update.

There are now 26 people in the ICU. Three additional deaths were reported over the last three days.

As for vaccinations, nearly 5.4 million doses of COVID-19 vaccine have been administered to date in Alberta.

As of Monday afternoon, 76.4 per cent of the eligible population has received at least one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine, while 66.9 per cent are now fully vaccinated.
