‘His first duty is to his constituents’: CTF says Chahal needs to make federal run an after-work hobby

CALGARY — The Canadian Taxpayers’ Federation (CTF) is raising some questions surrounding George Chahal’s run for the federal Liberal Party.
Chahal is a candidate in Calgary-Skyview and while he says he won’t run in the next municipal election, he also says he won’t step aside from council while he campaigns for the Trudeau Liberals.
But, the CTF Federal Director, Franco Terrazzano, says Calgarians are paying him to be a councillor, not a federal candidate.
“Well this looks really bad, his first duty is to his constituents as a city councillor. Remember, it’s Calgary taxpayers that have been paying his big city hall paycheck, so if he wants to remain as a city councillor, then he needs to show how he is making his role as a city councillor his priority,” Terrazzano said.

Terrazzano adds Chahal needs to make this federal run an after-work hobby.
“If he can’t publicly show Calgarians how he’s going to keep his number one duty as being a city councillor, then he needs to resign.”
He says a better option would be for Chahal to take an unpaid leave of absence during the campaign.
Shortly after Terrazzano’s comments, Chahal was joined by Liberal Leader Justin Trudeau for a campaign event in the northeast Calgary community of Whitehorn.
