Chahal withdraws from municipal race, sets sights on federal run

CALGARY — Incumbent City Councillor George Chahal has officially withdrawn from the race in Ward 5 as he sets his sights on his federal campaign.
Chahal is running for the Trudeau Liberals in Calgary-Skyview and had previously announced his plans to pull himself from the race.
Because the date of the federal election, Spet. 20, is the same date as the deadline for candidates to enter the municipal race, Chahal could have technically still run if he had lost.

Though his campaign said last week he would not be on the municipal ballot on Oct. 18.
The Elections Calgary website has been updated to reflect Chahal’s announcement.
