Three Calgarians win LOTTO MAX, WESTERN MAX draws

CALGARY – Three Calgarians have a little extra pep in their step after picking the winning numbers in recent lottery draws.
Two friends, Hue Tran and My Hui Trang are splitting their $1-million prize from the July 6 LOTTO MAX draw.
“We couldn’t believe it,” said Trang. “We were very surprised and very happy!”
While neither friend has any firm plans for their half of the windfall, they both say they have a few ideas on how to spend their money.
“We’re both going to pay some bills and share the money with our families,” said Trang. “We would both like to donate some of the money as well.”
Another Calgarian, Kirk Stratychuk wasn’t sure what number he was seeing when several zeros scrolled across the screen after scanning his $5 WESTERN MAX ticket.
“I checked a few tickets and then I got to this one,” he said. “It all happened so quickly. The numbers went up and then they were gone, so I brought the ticket to the store clerk and got him to check it.”
He wasn’t the only one confused over his win, he says. Apparently, the cashier thought Stratychuk won $1,000. Another thought he won $100,000.
“Then the manager came to the counter and said, ‘No, you just won a million dollars!’”
He says he’ll be using some of his new riches to buy a new truck.
His win was from the June 25 draw.
