Calgary mayoral candidates release donor lists

CALGARY – With the municipal election slowly creeping up, more and more voters are demanding candidates release their donor lists before they head to the polls.

While some candidates had already disclosed their donors, others said they’d wait but are changing their minds now after a lot of backlash.

Jyoti Gondek quietly released her donor list Wednesday.

Jeromy Farkas released his list on Thursday afternoon, and Jeff Davison just released his Thursday.

Davison says if you’re a serious candidate, you need to release your donor list.

“The only reason candidates are waiting to release their list is because they’re afraid you’re gonna lose folks, based on who has actually given the money,” he said when he released his list of donors.

“What it’s done is created a culture of secrecy and elections but doesn’t best serve Calgarians, and it’s a culture that I’m committed to change.”

Davison’s announcement comes only after controversy.

His campaign was accused of improper involvement with a third-party advertiser.
