Calgarians will be waking up to 10 centimetres of snow Friday morning. This is the first major snowfall of the season. The City of Calgary recommends getting winter tires installed and driving with caution. Jasmine Vickaryous reports.

It’ll be a Halloween many Canadians know well–snowsuits under costumes for little trick-or-treaters.

After a tame start to fall, Calgarians can expect to see the first big snowfall of the season Friday.

Environment Canada predicts up to 10 centimetres of snow could fall during the day Friday with the temperature hovering around the one-degree mark.

Saturday and Sunday are both expected to be sunny with highs of zero.

Early to mid-week next week will see temperature jump back up to the low- to mid-teens and clear away some of the snow.

In the mountains, up to 30 centimetres could fall ahead of the weekend.

Are you ready for winter?

The city is reminding Calgarians to be prepared for winter conditions, as crews also get ready to clear roads and tackle the snowfall Friday.

If you see the snowplows out on the streets tomorrow or over the weekend, the city asks that you keep your distance to allow workers to clear the snow safely.

It’s also a good idea to leave yourself extra time to get to where you need to go.

remember to clear your vehicle off with a snow brush before jetting off to work, bundle up and wear proper footwear.

The city also encourages you to consider putting winter tires on your car if you haven’t already had them installed this year.
