A seven-year-old girl and her father have been identified as the two people who were killed in a crash along Macleod Trail at Lake Fraser Gate SE Wednesday night.
Calgary police say the girl’s sister, who is 11, was also seriously hurt in the collision, which happened just before 5:30 p.m. in the city’s southwest.
Investigators explain a three-quarter ton pick-up truck was heading north on Macleod Trail in the left lane when it hit the sedan carrying the family from behind.
“The impact forced the car to rotate and cross over the center median into the southbound lanes. The car was then struck by a southbound half-ton truck,” the CPS says.

The 37-year-old father and his younger daughter were both pronounced dead at the scene.
The three-quarter ton truck is said to have continued north after the crash, passing the median before crossing over the southbound lanes and up the shoulder.
The vehicle eventually stopped on some CP Railway tracks. The driver of the pick-up then ran away.
Driver arrested, charged after leaving crash scene
He was caught and taken into custody nearby.
On Thursday, police identified him as 51-year-old Yannick Joseph Bouchard. He is now facing a number of charges, including dangerous driving causing death, hit and run causing death and a pair of dangerous driving charges causing bodily harm.
While impairment is not believed to be a factor in this crash, police say excessive speed is being considered.
“To the family and friends of the victims, our thoughts are with you during this difficult time. This is a season in which we should be celebrating with our loved ones, not mourning their loss,” said Traffic Section Sgt. Colin Foster.
