Winter storm warning issued for Banff, other parts of Alberta

A winter storm is set to bring a dumping of snow to some parts of Alberta.
Environment Canada has put out a warning for parts of Banff National Park, saying the snowfall will last through Friday morning in a number of areas.
“Total snowfall accumulations may exceed 25 cm by Friday morning,” the agency writes.
It also warns of strong winds, with gusts of up to 70 kilometres per hour, creating visibility challenges.

Areas around Lake Louise, Highway 93, and the Columbia Icefields could be among the hardest hit by the storm.
With conditions expected to be severe, people are being urged to consider postponing non-essential travel plans until things improve.
“Visibility will be suddenly reduced to near zero at times in heavy snow and blowing snow,” Environment Canada warns.
People are also being encouraged to create an emergency plan and prepare a kit, containing water, food, medicine, and other essentials in case you get stuck or if there’s a power outage.
