Boxers go toe-to-toe to raise awareness about mental health

Saturday night’s alright for fighting.

Amateur boxers will be putting up their dukes to raise money for the Canadian Mental Health Association this weekend.

Fighting for Mental Health will be held at the Olympus Boxing Club in the northeast on Saturday night.

Event organizer Peter Pilarski says it will be a great night of boxing for a good cause.

“Really the purpose is just to raise money for mental health, mental health awareness. As we all know, it has just been a tough last couple of years, so we just want to do our part to make sure we are talking about mental health and so we are having a mini boxing tournament. We have five different fights going on that night.”

Pilarski says the pandemic has really been hard on everyone’s mental health.

“For me, boxing has really been the thing that has helped me maintain my mental health and so, you know, really to me it is bringing boxing, sport, people together because that is what really helps me.”
